Chana dal (soaked)

Soak and cook chana dal

Wash and soak chana dal for 4 hours. Then cook in pressure cooker with turmeric and salt until soft.

Mash the dal

Mash the cooked dal into a smooth paste.

Prepare tempering

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chili, garlic and ginger.

Add onions and tomatoes

Add chopped onions and cook until golden. Then add tomatoes and cook until soft.

Add spices and mashed dal

Add red chili powder and mashed dal. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes.

Finish and garnish

Add lemon juice and coriander leaves. Mix well. Serve hot topped with sev.

Fridge: 2 days
Reheat: Microwave 1-2 minutes or pan on medium heat

Best served fresh. Sev should be added just before serving to keep it crunchy.
