Flapjack
Chewy oat bars with brown sugar, syrup, and dried fruit
A classic baked flapjack with a rich, chewy texture and gentle caramel sweetness. The dried fruit adds little bursts of flavor in every bite.
Equipment
Ingredients
Ingredients
oats (rolled)
200 g
brown sugar (packed)
100 g
golden syrup
3 tbsp
margarine (softened)
100 g
dried fruit (chopped)
50 g
Instructions
Prepare the tin and oven
Line the baking tin and preheat the oven so the mixture can bake evenly as soon as it is ready.
Melt the sugar base
Put the margarine, brown sugar, and golden syrup into a saucepan and melt gently, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
Add the oats and fruit
Remove the pan from the heat, then stir in the oats and dried fruit until everything is evenly coated.
Bake and cool
Press the mixture into the prepared tin and bake until lightly golden, then cool briefly before cutting into bars.
Storage
Store in an airtight container. Separate layers with parchment if stacking.
Notes
• The original worksheet mentions using a warm water measuring jug to help pour the syrup.
• Cut into 8 bars after cooling slightly for cleaner slices.
