Birthday Celebration Cake

Instructions
Preheat oven
Preheat the oven to 175°C and prepare two 20cm round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time
Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Mix dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.
Alternate wet and dry ingredients
Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with flour.
Bake the cake layers
Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare buttercream frosting
Beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating until smooth and fluffy.
Assemble the cake
Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread with frosting, top with second layer, and frost the entire cake.
