Prepare ginger and spices
Peel and grate fresh ginger. Crush cardamom pods if using.

Boil water with ginger and spices
Add water, grated ginger, cardamom and cinnamon stick to a pot. Bring to a boil.

Add tea and simmer
Add black tea leaves and simmer for 2 minutes.

Add milk and jaggery
Pour in milk and add crushed jaggery. Stir until jaggery dissolves completely.

Strain the chai through a fine sieve or tea strainer into cups and serve hot.
