Dip the lady fingers
Mix espresso with liqueur in a shallow bowl. Quickly dip each lady finger on both sides - do not soak.
Assemble first layer
Arrange a single layer of dipped lady fingers in the bottom of an 8x8 inch dish. Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture evenly over the top.
Add second layer and finish
Add another layer of dipped lady fingers, then spread the remaining mascarpone cream. Dust generously with cocoa powder using a fine mesh strainer.
Chill before serving
Refrigerate the assembled tiramisu for at least 3-4 hours or overnight to allow flavors to meld and set properly.
Storage
Make completely but do not dust with cocoa powder before freezing. Thaw overnight in refrigerator and dust with cocoa a few hours before serving.
Notes
• Tiramisu tastes even better when made 1 day ahead
• Can be made alcohol-free by omitting liqueur
• Lady fingers should be 7 oz package (about 24 cookies)
