Buttercream Frosting

Instructions
Preheat oven and prepare pans
Preheat the oven to 175°C. Grease and line two 20 cm round cake pans with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add eggs one at a time
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
Alternate adding flour and milk
Add the dry ingredients in three additions alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix just until combined.
Bake the cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the cakes
Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Make buttercream frosting
Beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, salt and milk. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Assemble and frost the cake
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides. Pipe decorative borders if desired.
Decorate the cake
Add sprinkles, edible flowers or other decorations as desired. Slice and serve.
Storage
Store in airtight container. Bring to room temperature before serving for best texture.
