Instructions
Mix the dough
Combine the dry ingredients, then add the warm milk and butter. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead until smooth
Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer until it becomes smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
First rise
Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size.
Shape the loaf
Deflate the dough gently, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a lined loaf tin.
Second rise
Cover and let the shaped loaf rise again until it crowns just above the tin.
Bake the bread
Bake until deeply golden on top and cooked through. Cool before slicing.
Storage
Store fully cooled bread in a sealed bag at room temperature for 1 day, or refrigerate to extend freshness. Freeze sliced for easy toasting later.
