Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.

Make cookie dough

In a bowl, mix melted butter with brown and white sugar. Add egg and vanilla, then stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Fold in chocolate chips.

Make brownie batter

In another bowl, combine melted butter and sugar. Mix in eggs and vanilla, then stir in flour, cocoa powder and salt. Fold in chocolate chips.

Assemble layers

Spread half the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan. Pour the brownie batter on top, then dollop the remaining cookie dough over the brownie layer.

Bake brookie

Bake for 30-35 minutes until the edges are golden and the center is just set. A toothpick inserted should come out with moist crumbs.
