Preheat the oven

Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Make the chocolate cake batter

Add all cake ingredients except the boiling water to a mixing bowl and mix well. Add the boiling water and mix until everything is well combined.

Bake the cake

Pour the batter into the lined 8x8 inch baking pan and bake at 175°C for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Transfer the cake to a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.

Make the cherry filling

Add all cherry filling ingredients to a small saucepan, stir well, and bring to a boil, then simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.

Make the whipped cream

Smooth the excess cream on all four sides of the cake to create a thin layer for the chocolate shavings to stick to.

Pipe the remaining whipped cream on top of the cake using the piping bag.
