Instructions
Preheat oven
Preheat the oven to the correct baking temperature.
Cream butter and sugars
Beat the softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy.
Add eggs and vanilla
Mix in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
Combine dry ingredients
Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
Combine wet and dry
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips
Gently fold the chocolate chips into the cookie dough.
Shape cookies
Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough and place on lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
Chill the dough
Refrigerate the shaped cookies for at least 15 minutes to prevent spreading.
Bake the cookies
Bake until the edges are golden brown but centers still look slightly underdone.
Cool on the sheet
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
