Instructions
Prepare ingredients and equipment
Preheat oven and prepare baking sheets. Let butter soften at room temperature.
Cream butter and sugars
Beat softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla
Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Combine wet and dry ingredients
Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
Add chocolate and nuts
Fold in chocolate chips, Nutella swirls, and chopped walnuts if using.
Chill the dough
Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes to prevent spreading.
Shape the cookies
Scoop dough into balls and place on parchment-lined baking sheets, spacing 5cm apart.
Bake the cookies
Bake at 175°C for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers are still soft.
Cool the cookies
Let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
