Instructions
Prepare ingredients
Gather and prepare all ingredients.
Melt the butter
Melt the butter on low heat in the cast-iron skillet (or medium skillet).
Cut the apples
While the butter is melting, peel and cut the apples into medium-sized wedges.
Cook apples in butter
Add the cut apples to the melted butter. Lid the skillet and cook on low for 15 minutes. (I used tin foil because I did not have a lid).
Add sugar and spices
After 15 minutes, remove the lid and sprinkle in the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt on top of the apples and stir to coat. Spread out evenly to fit the skillet.
Finish cooking
Continue cooking for another 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until syrupy and the apples are tender.
Storage
Best served warm. Store in airtight container in refrigerator. Reheat gently to avoid breaking down apples.
