Instructions
Prepare ingredients
Slice the onions very thin and prepare all the ingredients.
Prepare the buns
Butter the cut sides of the burger buns and toast them in a pan until golden.
Smash the burgers
Heat a heavy pan over high heat. Divide the beef into 4 portions and place on the hot pan. Immediately smash each portion flat with a spatula, season with salt and pepper, and top with a generous amount of thin onion slices. Press the onions into the meat.
Add cheese
Flip the burgers and immediately place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cook until the cheese melts.
Assemble the burgers
Spread mayonnaise on the toasted buns, add the smash burger patties with caramelized onions, and top with pickles. Serve immediately.
