Prepare ingredients

Chop onion and mince garlic. Grate mozzarella and parmesan cheese.

Cook pasta

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente.

Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining for adjusting sauce consistency

Make the sauce

Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, then add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

Add tomato sauce

Pour in tomato sauce, season with salt and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Combine pasta and sauce

Add drained pasta to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. Remove from heat.
