These classic chocolate chip cookies deliver the perfect balance of crispy golden edges and soft, chewy centers loaded with melty chocolate chips.

Instructions
Preheat oven
Preheat the oven to 180°C and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Cream butter and sugars
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg and vanilla
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Combine wet and dry ingredients
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips
Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Shape and place cookies
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and place them 5cm apart on prepared baking sheets.
Bake the cookies
Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden brown but centers still look slightly underdone.
Cool on baking sheet
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Store in airtight container. Frozen cookies can be baked directly from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to bake time.
Notes
• For chewier cookies, chill dough for 30 minutes before baking
• Use a mix of dark and milk chocolate chips for more complex flavor
