Instructions
Preheat oven and prepare pan
Preheat your oven to 190°C and line a 23x33 cm baking dish with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly distributed.
Cream butter and sugars
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine wet and dry ingredients
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in chocolate chips and nuts
Gently fold in the chocolate chips and optional chopped walnuts until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Bake the cookie bars
Spread the dough evenly in the prepared pan and bake at 190°C for 15-20 minutes until the edges are golden brown but the center still looks slightly underbaked.
Cool and slice
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
