Instructions
Prepare slurry
Mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a smooth slurry that will thicken the sauce.
Combine sauce ingredients
In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, vinegar, chili flakes, minced garlic, and salt.
Cook the sauce
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then simmer for 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves completely.
Thicken the sauce
Add the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
Cool and store
Remove from heat and let the sauce cool completely before transferring to a clean jar or bottle.
