3 piece
unsalted butter
127 g
large egg (room temperature)
1 piece
brown sugar
150 g
white sugar
50 g
all-purpose flour
188 g
baking soda
5 g
baking powder
2 g
salt
3 g
cinnamon
3 g
vanilla extract
5 ml
semi-sweet chocolate chips
180 g
Instructions
Brown the butter
Heat butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it melts, foams, sizzles, and turns golden brown with a nutty aroma.
Cool the browned butter
Pour browned butter into a bowl and place in freezer for 5 minutes to cool slightly without becoming cold.
Mash bananas and mix wet ingredients
In a large bowl, mash ripe bananas until mostly smooth, then add cooled browned butter, brown sugar, white sugar, egg, and vanilla extract.
Add dry ingredients
Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon to the wet mixture and mix thoroughly until no dry flour remains.
Fold in chocolate chips
Fold about 1 cup of chocolate chips into the batter, reserving some for topping.
Prepare loaf pan and preheat oven
Preheat oven to 175°C and line or grease a loaf pan.
Bake the banana bread
Pour batter into prepared pan, sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top, and bake for 60 minutes, covering with foil halfway through to prevent over-browning.
Test for doneness
Insert a toothpick into the center - it should come out with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter. If needed, bake an extra 5-10 minutes.
Cool and slice
Let the bread cool slightly, then slice and enjoy.
