Preheat oven and prepare pan

Preheat the oven to 190°C and line a muffin tin with paper cases.

Mix dry ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

Combine wet ingredients

In another bowl, mix melted butter, milk and eggs until smooth.

Combine wet and dry mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined.

Do not overmix – a few lumps are okay for tender muffins

Fold in chocolate chips

Gently fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a few for the tops.

Fill muffin cups

Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin cups, filling each about ¾ full.

Bake at 190°C for 18–20 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool and serve

Let muffins cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
